Living in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne? Want some specialist, elite training?
WHAT IS THE EASTERN INSTITUTE OF VOLLEYBALL (EIV) ???
EIV was established to identify talented athletes, with volleyball skills and/or athletic ability for the sport of volleyball, and to develop this potential to its highest level possible; school, Victorian or Australian representation.
EIV SERVICES
- Elite coaching from current and past Australian coaches and players to develop your skills further using current Volleyball Team Australia skill models
- Strength & conditioning (Active Lifestyle Specialists)
- Sports medicine (Bounce Health Group)
- Sports psychology (Innate Youth)
- Performance analysis technology
- Close relationship with both your school and club coaches
EIV TARGET ATHLETES
- EIV’s 2008 program will continue to focus on girls born in 1992/93/94 and boys born in 1991/92/93 to be in line with the current Australian Youth Program, but the invitation to trial is open to any athlete under the of 18 years.
- EIV is a talent identification and development program thus volleyball skill is only one component assessed. Athletes with limited volleyball experience are more than welcome to attend.
EIV PROGRAM STRUCTURE
- 16 male and 16 female athletes will be selected to participate in the program for 2008. This number maybe increased or decreased at the staff’s discretion.
- Male training will be from 7pm to 9:00pm Wednesday evenings at Luther College.
- Female training will be from 6pm to 8:00pm Wednesday evenings at Luther College.
- Further training will be added (one more court session per week), once the Victorian Volleyball League (state league) concludes in September (Monday nights, same times).
- Successful athletes until September are expected to at least be training with a state league club if not playing. Choice of club is entirely up to the athlete, and school links are strongly encouraged

I am a current EIV athlete and just about to finish the first year of the program, and I am definately trialing for the second as well.
EIV has been heaps of fun but more importantly for my volleyball I have learned a massive amount, improved skill wise, and got fitter and stronger

Can you tell me who are your past or present Australian Coaches. Neither of the current Head Coaches have been Australian Coaches – have they?
What is the cost of the program. When does it start and finish?

@Barry, A bit of research on the net shows that:
Bill McHoule has been Assistant Coach of the Australian Youth/Junior Men (87 program, see link from AVF website http://avf.org.au/index.php?id=46) and currently one of the assistants with the 92/93 Youth Women.
John McInerney has played for Australia, shadow quad in 2000 too
The program goes from March 08 to end of Febuary 09
The cost will be $700 which includes uniform, one country camp, one country tournament and musclosketal testing, ALL costs included for the program.

Sounds really good BUT it is endorsed by the State body?

Hi Katie,
My understanding is that EIV is not officially sanctioned by Volleyball Victoria or Volleyball Australia, however, I believe that Volleyball Australia is very aware of the program. If you live in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne I would have no hesitation in suggesting that the program is well worth having a look at.

Hi Katie – Suzie here!
Why would it be so important to be endorsed by the state body? Especially when as you have started off saying…”it sounds really good!!!”
From what you hear (and read on this blog)this program covers a niche. It provides specialised training for athletes in the North Eastern suburbs. It sounds well run, the kids and parents love it and has lots of kids making state and National junior teams.
To me, sounds like a positive thing for Volleyball. Makes me think why the state body won’t endorse it? Maybe they will soon now that it has been around for a year or so?
Thanks
Suzie

simple Suzie,
Victoria has a State body
this is the first I have heard about the program, but you seem to know a fair bit about it so thanks for your advice

Katie,
I think you’ll find that Volleyball Victoria view EIV as a competitor rather than a sibling of their GMVA program and therefore don’t have the time, inclination or desire to publicise it in any way, shape or form.
If the feedback continues to be as positive as it has been so far and it’s athletes continue to succeed you have to think VVI will have no choice but to sit up and take notice at some point.

EIV had about 20 athletes at aus camp in december compared to GMVA’s 4.
There are 4 victorian’s named in the Youth Team, all of which are EIV athletes.
