Let them play - latest FIVB board decision

As we reported 3 days ago, there has been a softening in the rules to regulate foreign players in clubs. The FIVB Board of Administration has made the following announcement overnight.
Today the Board agreed on a historical decision for the Volleyball Family. “Each Club will be free to have as many players coming from other National Federations as they want, under the conditions determined in an International Transfer Certificate. Three years are given to having only two players coming from another National Federation on court at the same time and each National Federation will be able to authorize one more ITC player on court. This new regulation is the final decision after broad discussions with several National Federations and during the FIVB Board of Administration meetings,” said Dr. Acosta.
You can read the full press release on the FIVB site. The FIVB decision will still need to go to the World Conference in June. The FIVB have been very careful to not stop the employment of anyone - to not appear to be in contravention of the EU free movement of workers laws. It will be interesting to see if they have done enough to stop players and clubs taking this to court on challenge. As FIFA were told recently, any move to outflank the EU laws could potentially lead to widespread legal actions.
I think there is still a long way to go on this situation. For now, nothing changes next year.
