Volleyball Australia will be holding a National Volleyball Symposium at the Australian Institute of Sport from the 17th to the 19th of October 2008. It’s been 9 years since we had Taras Liskevych out here – far too long. So let’s support this chance to hear from one of the best. Unfortunately, these dates clash with schools cups in 2 states!

Three streams – Coaching, Refereeing and Club/Association Development – are on the agenda to be presented over the 3 day conference.  The key note speaker will be Hugh McCutcheon, Head Coach of the USA Men’s National Team, as well as presentations from National Indoor and Beach Coaching staff, International Referees and AIS sport support service staff.

Check out the Volleyball Australia site, and Devo’s Volleyball,  for more info as it becomes available. Christian Stapff, Sport Development Manager at the AVF, tells me that more detail will be available as early as next week.

Nearly every 6 or 7 years Australian volleyball runs something for coaches.
As it is only every 6 to 7 years you would not want to miss it.
You certainly would not want to run it on one of the State School Cup weekends

    OR WOULD YOU?????

    AVF you must be joking.
How dare you put it on a weekend when South Australian coaches cannot possibly attend because of our kids playing in the SA State Cup.
Do you expect us to not enter teams in the State Cup and attend the coaches’ seminar.

I hope you have planned something in Adelaide the weekend after for the SA coaches.

Heard Hugh McCutcheon talk at the American Volleyball Coaches Convention last year. He was very good. Definately worth attending to hear. Mind you don’t forget our own men’s coaches rate highly too. It would be good to hear Russ’ insight as we don’t often get a chance.

The dates are also the Queensland Schools Cup. Like Eldo I would love to go to this event but unable to do so. Last year the WAVL was on Schools Cup weekend again we lost vaulable coaches, referees etc.

Thus the weekend is out for SA , QLD and if you look at the AVF calendar the JNR and Youth boys and girls will be OS.

Low numbers will mean it is our fault we did not go not the AVF poor planing

I had no idea it was the QLD schools cup as well as the SA schools cup.
There must be a compelling reason to disenfranchise 2 states full of coaches.

I have asked the AVF for an explanation but have not received anything as yet.
