The Australian pairing (and number 3 seeds) avoided the second upset of the day - the Brazillians lost earlier. They smashed a 15-6 win in the third to make it through to the quarter finals, but the Dutch Sophie Van Gestel and Michelle Stiekema, who came through the qualification rounds, knocked off Palmer and Rohkamper of Australia in the quaterfinals in two close sets to progress to the semi-finals.
Palmer and Rohkamper entered the Brighton Beach competition as one of the top teams after claiming the silver medal at the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB Junior World Championships in Modena, Italy. A year earlier in Bermuda, Palmer and Rohkamper won the gold medal at the SWATCH-FIVB Youth World Championships for players under the age of 19. more@fivb
