Thanks for the updates Devo. What’s up with the Volleyball Aus site. They are usually good with the beach results, but there’s been nothing – and it is the world championships!

Losing to the 41st seeded team would have been disappointing, especially with a game against the 2nd seeds up for grabs in the round of 32!
Good luck next time girls!

Anyone else see all the forfeits in the men’s draw?
Because a forfeit doesn’t go down as 21-0 21-0, teams were forfeiting games to keep their percentage up (or so their friends could get a win) and making it through to the second round. What a joke!

Definitely seems to be what is happening in the mens draw. Getting rid of the sets for and against was a mistake. Given that the event is being played on 2 courts and every game is ticketed and sold out it would be a real shame for the people missing out on matches they were hoping to see. The pool play format has been rejigged over the last 7 or 8 years and ultimately the best way forward has not been found….definitely a step back for this event. Be interesting to see how many of the ‘injured teams’ come out and play the round of 32….I am guessing they all will.

This is why people controlling events in the AVF must vet FIVB rule changes.
Working at the Sydney Olympics showed me that we had a fair %age of clowns in the FIVB.
Thet were there for the wrong reasons and just held things up.
There is no guarantee that they will get it right.
And certainly no guarantee that even if they do get it right that it will be right for us.
In 2008 without any discussion, the sets for and against was dropped for schools cup.
At our meeting in January we put it back.
