2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League

Pool E
The situation seems luxurious, at least at a first glance. VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN has already booked two victories and not against easy opponents. With two three-setters against Italian champion CoprAtlantide PIACENZA and Greek vice-champion Panathinaikos ATHENS, the German lead the standings in Pool E after two legs. “We started better than we all might have expected“, says Stelian Moculescu, head coach of the German team. “Until now everything worked really well. But that is no guarantee that it goes on like this”. For the German champions the campaign continues with the second home match against JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel S.A. of Poland. Moculescu is sure: “This match will be the most difficult for us. For a lot of people a victory is obvious. But that is not true”. The Polish around their Russian star, spiker Pavel Abramov, come to Germany having finished in second place last year’s GM Capital Challenge Cup and in third place in the 2009 Polish league. Currently the club from southern Poland ranges in second position, just behind PGE Skra BELCHATOW. “JASTRZEBSKI WEGIEL does not have many big names in the team“, says Moculescu. “But this is not that relevant”. The German coach warns for the powerful services and attacks of Australians Igor Yudin and Benjamin Hardy. “Their balls are really tough”. For JASTRZEBSKI a success in Friedrichshafen would be the first victory in the CEV Indesit Champions League. If FRIEDRICHSHAFEN wins, the German top team could come quite near to qualify for the Playoffs 12. “We know that we aren’t any longer an underdog“, so Moculescu. “But we know also that we can tumble very quickly.“ more@CEV
