I came across this new site the other day, and as I am about to go on holidays, I have done a bit of searching for links, as there are several Asian Championships coming up in the near future. I have set up the blog to re-post these links on October 1st, (originally posted 14/09/08) but it would be a good idea to bookmark these links now if you want to follow the results.
With the 7th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship to be held at the Philsports Multi-Purpose Arena, Pasig City, Philippines from October 11 to 18, the Philippine Volleyball Federation has set up a new blog.
Asian Boys Youth Champs in Sri Lanka Oct 14-22: I haven’t found / there isn’t a Sri Lankan Volleyball site. Try Daily News, or Lanka Newspapers.
Those following the Asian Junior Girls, October 20 to 28, can try the Chinese Taipei Volleyball Association. There is a computer translation here.
Of course, there is Volleyball Australia, and the Asian Volleyball Confederation. Also you can do a search in Google and hit the news tab at the top of the page. The indian newspapers are usually on top of these events.

TEHRAN, Apr. 9 (MNA) – Iran’s volleyball team is set to book a berth in the upcoming Olympics in the Olympic qualification tournament, which is being held in Tokyo from May 31 to June 8.
The team will take part in two warm-up games against Serbia and Egypt prior to the Japan competition. … Iran is scheduled to play Algeria in the opening match on May 31. The team will face Japan, Thailand, Argentina, Italy, South Korea, and Australia in the remaining matches.
Iran will most likely qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games if it can defeat Algeria and Japan, Davarzani added.
I think the Aussies may have a different view on this!
This is the same president who claimed last December “… that the home side will stand top in Asia in 2009. No doubt, Iran will have the final say in Asia’s volleyball in 2009 and will lift the title,” reiterated the top official. Davarzani said Iran will outrank Korea and Japan, adding the two teams are not among top world sides
I guess we should remind Iran of the final positions at last year’s Asian Championships:

But will the broadcasts be taken up by Aussie TV? I won’t be holding my breath.

Confused by the Olympic qualification process? It is convoluted. The latest entry on the FIVB site sets out what has happened, and what still has to happen in both volleyball and beach volleyball.
In volleyball, VTAM have to once again defeat Japan, Korea, Iran, and Thailand in May. On the beach, where 24 teams will qualify, Barnett & Cook are currently ranked 9th in the women’s competition. Schacht & Slack are currently ranked 10th in the men’s.
