Devo is gob-smacked!

Posted by devo on May 21, 2008

An Aussie team overseas has set a new bench mark. The women’s team in the Abu Dhabi international tournament has set up a blog site!

Teresa Henderson (team manager for the senior women’s team in Abu Dhabi) has set up the site.

The women are warming up for their match against the Netherlands (Abu Dhabi is 6 hours behind AEST). Teresa will update the blog after the match. Devo is a little disappointed. It makes it very hard to win the race to get results up first! LOL!!

Check it out:

Jarryd Christensen selected by peers

Posted by devo on April 20, 2008

Our friend Kasper (Website: http://www.volleyball.dk) writes from Denmark:

Hi Devo

Just wanted to make a final note on the season here in Denmark:

Jarryd Christensen was the only Aussie here this seeason. His Middelfart team came in third. A bit disappointing for them. For a long time they looked like the closest contenders to favourites Marienlyst, but they ended up losing 1-2 in the semis. Having taken the away game 3-0, they lost both home matches 2-3 to Aalborg. Marienlyst (the former team of Shane Alexander and Nathan Roberts) then beat Aalborg in the finals.

However, Jarryd was selected for “Team of the Year”, which is decided through a poll including all the players in the division.

My own team, unfortunately, was relegated. Maybe we need some Aussies!

Swedish Blog

Posted by devo on October 24, 2007

I have added Olafsen Volley to the blog roll. I have translated it by computer - so don’t expect it to be great English. Martin Olafsen is Micah Venturini’s coach in Sweden.

I have also changed Kasper’s link so that it is “translated”. Have fun!

Phill on Aussies in Greece, Tunisia, and France

Posted by devo on August 20, 2007

Aussie team member Phill DeSalvo has updated his blog with comments on the last stops of the  current OS tour.

Tunisia was the hardest conditions that I have ever played volleyball in. Playing in stadiums with no air conditioning in the middle of the North African summer was not something that the body really agrees with …  I managed to break a new personal record. The day that we had to play two games I went though just over 12 litres of water. At home the Wattle Bank would have been all mine… (Kieran - that sounds like a challenge. (sorry readers, a family in-joke)) Phill’s blog more …

Volleyball Voices

Posted by devo on August 19, 2007

I’ve added April Chapple’s Volleyball Voices to the blogroll - a women’s champion volleyball player database and resource center for all females who play. The purpose of Volleyball Voices is “… to empower, educate and inspire female volleyball players to become self confident elite athletes … to create the first virtual volleyball mentoring community on the Web where former world class Champions come to inspire, support, motivate and teach other female volleyball enthusiasts.”

another new site - junior volleyball championships -update

Posted by devo on April 22, 2007

Some one is doing a lot of typing in the small hours of the night! Hot on the heels of The Australian Volleyball Archive, that is building a list of all the Australian volleyball teams, comes the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships archive.

update: and now the Queensland archive.

Check it out here. It’s good to see that Aussie blogging and volleyball are starting to get together. Hopefully others will follow suit. It’s great to have information available. As Volleyball Australia has trouble keeping up-to-date at times with the latest Aussie indoor volleyball news, perhaps it’s time for them to start listing the active blogs on their web site.

50+ touch rally

Posted by devo on March 10, 2007

Over at Bomberino, Sandy has posted a Canadian rally between UBC and Alberta. It took a minute and 50 touches to win the point. Some nice scrambling volleyball, with neither team able to find the floor.

Josh to lose his hair!

Posted by devo on March 5, 2007

The Editor of Spike Magazine, Josh Lawrence reports:

In just under two weeks I will be shaving my head, all in the name of the Leukemia Foundation.

The World’s Greatest Shave is a day when people all over the country either shave or colour their hair to raise money for the foundation. The money raised will allow the Leukaemia Foundation to continue to support patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

I should have jumped onto this much earlier so I’m asking every volleyball or beach volleyball or Spike lover out there to consider sponsoring my little shaving effort. To ensure everyone is entertained thoroughly by my decision to lop of my curls, the Editor’s Rant in the next issue of Spike will feature pictures of a shaven editor (it’s about time we changed that pic anyway!).

For anyone who hasn’t heard about the World’s Greatest Shave and would like to know more visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com.

For anyone keen to sponsor me please visit http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/profile.php?id=308064 where you can donate online and find out more details.

Let’s get behind this effort! Get online and help out the cause. And besides, it will be a good look for Josh.
