World League finals to begin

Brazil out of World League!

The USA is at one step from its first FIVB World League title. In the first Semi Final on Saturday the Americans beat the host team Brazil 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 27-25) to assure their spot in the gold medal match … The second spot in the gold medal match of the FIVB World League 2008 went to Serbia after a three sets battle against Russia. The World League finals begin today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will continue for the next 5 days. Brazil are  looking for their sixth successive gold medal and joint-record eighth overall gold medal in 19 World Leagues. The Brazilians and eight-time winners Italy - not qualified for this final round - have taken part in every World League since the start of the competition.

With the Olympics around the corner, the competition here will be fierce.

Brazil win World Grand Prix

Brazil earned a hard-fought 3-0 victory over hosts Japan Sunday evening to win their seventh World Grand Prix title with a perfect 5-0 record as the 2008 edition of the women’s Volleyball gala lowered its curtain at Yokohama Arena. Cuba rallied past World No. 2 Italy 3-1 for the silver while the United States held off reigning Olympic champions China 3-2 to finish fourth. more@fivb ~ Follow me by Andrea Zorzi

Men’s Olympic Qualifiers schedules

The FIVB has set the match schedules for the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournaments in Düsseldorf, Germany, Espinho, Portugal and Tokyo, Japan, that will decide the remaining four places up for grabs in the Beijing Olympics Men’s Volleyball Tournament. fivb more There’s also an Aussie action shot on the announcement!

Netherlands take out FIVB Grand Prix - update

wgp_logoThe Netherlands have won all 5 of their final round matches to clinch the Grand Prix - the womens equivalent of the World League. China finished second. Third place went to Italy. Get all your info on the FIVB site. ~ FIVB press release

The Netherlands completed a wonderful journey in this year’s FIVB World Grand Prix, recording ten wins in a row connecting the preliminaries and the final round.

“We work very hard and it is another proof that if we work hard we would win more than you lose,” added the wonder-making coach, who remained calm and cool as usual at the press conference after the match.

Women’s FIVB World Grand Prix: the best six

wgp_logoThe third weekend of the FIVB World Grand Prix is finished and the overall statistics promotes the best five and China. Brazil, Italy, Russia, Poland and The Netherlands are qualified for the final week in Ningbo, together with China. Poland is going to the Final Round for the first time ever. In Chinese Taipei, despite a typhoon hitting the area, the matches were regularly played!

FIVB World Grand Prix 2007 week 2

logo fivb wgpThe second week end of the FIVB World Grand Prix is won by Brazil, Russia and Poland: they were the leaders of the three pools which were played for the second leg in Tokyo, Khabarovsk and Hong Kong. FIVB World Grand Prix begins today

wgp_logoThe World Grand Prix, the women’s equivalent of the men’s World League begins today. Twelve teams will fight out the competition during August. You can keep up-to-date with the results, standings, pictures, and best players on the FIVB WGP page.

The 2007 World Grand Prix lasts for 4 weeks with a total of 65 matches. During the first, second and third weeks each team will play 9 matches in total. Preliminary rounds will be organized in Japan, Italy, Poland, Macau, Hong Kong, Taipei, Russia and Chinese Taipei. fivb more
